Infertility is defined based on age relative to how long you have been actively trying to conceive without success. Individuals with ovaries under age 35 who have been having unprotected sex for one year are considered infertile. Individuals with ovaries 35-40 who have been unable to conceive for 6 months are considered infertile. We advise egg providers age 40+ and sperm providers with low sperm counts to meet with a fertility expert as soon as possible.
Egg freezing is a reliable way for young women to improve their chances of successfully building a family on their own timeline. If you are not ready to become pregnant right now for any reason, freezing your eggs preserves your fertility until you are ready.
All individuals experience decreased egg quality and quantity as we age. We also experience a higher risk of miscarriage, especially after age 40. Female fertility first begins to decline in an individual’s late twenties, and for this reason, the best time to freeze your eggs is between ages 21-37.
